Using the latest electron microscopes, Shark Scale Jewellery Series is formed from a digitally captured section of shark placoid scales. Increasing in number as a shark grows the placoid scales or dermal denticles are small teeth covering the whole exterior surface of the shark. As well as exhibiting sculptural beauty under high magnification, with five teeth fitting on a pin head, they act to reduce the build of parasites and give hydrodynamic benefits to the shark. By funnelling the surface water into the channels in-between the teeth the increase in speed cleans off any parasites and equals out the speed with the surrounding water reducing drag, allowing for maximum efficiency. Once printed the earrings are then dyed, cleaned and polished, allowing you to get up close and personal with a shark.
